A few days ago I remember some old, old magazine and newspaper articles I saw a while ago about what people in the early 1900’s thought the year 2000 would be like and other predictions from different time periods. Although what always stuck me as odd is that they always seemed to go to such an extreme. While we usually did fufill those predictions, it wasn’t usually anywhere as complex or perfect as the original prediction. I decided to make my own predictions, but only for the near future so it’ll still be somewhat possible for me to find this post again and look back. I’m thinking that 20 years into the future is a more than enough since by thinking back to items available in 1988, we pretty much have those same things except just more advanced. Nothing really new and amazing came out and I don’t expect anything extremely revolutionary to come out in only 20 years.

So the year is 2028 and I’m 34. How different is my daily life?

An average computer will have a processor speed of 10GHz, have a 500TB SSD, and use a minimum of 16GB of RAM.

Computer displays will be OLED displays, use barely any power, and have extremely high resolutions packed in a high DPI display.

Cell phones will be integrated better into daily life and combine most small consumer devices without impairing the quality at which they perform, unlike most of today’s multi-use devices.

Internet access will be cheaper and much faster, with those in metropolitan areas having the option of using a cellular only network with speeds comparable to the landline Internet speeds.

Media center servers will be much more common, smaller, and cheaper and can be used to combine services such as TV along with displaying photos and videos and listening to music from one’s own computer.

These media servers, along with all consumer devices and computers will all be connected to the Internet and will constantly back themselves up to an Internet service which will allow access from anywhere in the world. This will also allow easy transfer of data from device to device, device to computer, and computer to computer, although wired and short-range wireless transfer will always be available. This will be a major part of the future as it will now be easily possible to access a file on your cell phone which is on your computer, be able to quickly work at home, never worry about losing data, have an option of having all your devices synced up with your pictures, music, and videos, be able to easily destroy all data on a device if it’s lost or stolen, then restore all the data on either a new device or on the same device if it’s returned, etc, etc.

Video game consoles will also be much more powerful, outputting a much higher resolution and cleaner image, which will be noticeable on future TVs, which will, like computer displays, use a much higher resolution with the same screen sizes by using a higher DPI.

Energy will have been moved to a much more reliable source since gasoline hit a high of $12 per gallon around 2013 and homes and consumer devices will use solar power to help power themselves and also contribute to the grid.

Older cars will use a temporary fix to convert them to electric which will be able to last several years before a new car is needed, which will be given at a discount as the old car will be recycled to keep up with demand for new electric cars.

The new electric cars will use a brand new type of battery that is small and light, yet holds a charge for several hundred miles and can charge in only a few hours. They will also have solar panels to power the electronics inside and small devices can also be plugged in to be charged even while the car is off.

People will be making slightly more than today while consumer good lower in price due to a cleaner and easier manufacturing process and no dependence on expensive oil.

We will have a huge explosion in the knowledge of the sciences, specifically in understanding space and time and we will be much closer to a unified theory of everything, combining all fundamental forces of nature.

(Really need to blog, have a really bad habit of starting up but then just stopping.) Anyway, a few weeks ago I was browsing on digg and had came across an article on Ars Technica about a new Wiki-like site just for biographies. And unlike Wikipedia, you don’t need to be famous at all. I decided to add mine for fun, making it sound like an actual biography: written in 3rd person, sounding somewhat professional, etc. Well it turns out that they look through biographies and see if they are any good, and if they decide they are good enough, they get put on the front page as a Featured Biography!

I had gotten an email from Ethan who had said he liked my biography and that if I added a few connections, he would put me on the front page. I had made a connection to a one sentence biography I made for Chris Meller and added to connections to my mom and dad. Thinking it wasn’t enough, I didn’t respond but then today I get an email saying that I was put on the front page! I feel quite honored to be with Marilyn Monroe and a leader of China who reigned for 27 years!

This post is also a shoutout to Biographicon, which is is an original idea and is implimented very well. It has already gotten some nice exposure, and the people there are nice, so I’m hoping that they keep the good work up and stay around for a while.

Since I first saw this new article on an online forum, I’ve been watching it for updates to see how this unfolds. Long story short, the parents of 11-year-old Madeline Neumann decided that it’s best to pray and hope their daughter recovers from a deadly, but easily treatable, case of type-1 diabetes.

Normally I don’t get too worked up about the news, since with all that goes on, the homicide here and car bomb there just seems like the normal everyday world. This is one exception to that. Being a recent convert from Christianity to atheism after deciding that 1) I don’t believe in anything that I should and 2) learning more about how completely inaccurate the Bible is and that there’s even doubt to whether Christ even existed (I’m still undecided on this). Although this isn’t really the time to go into detail about this.

What I want to bring attention to is the parents of Madeline Neumann. While I couldn’t care less about what story you believe in, when what you believe in gets in the way of someone’s well-being, that is just absolutely wrong. So far I didn’t see anyone actually be on the side of these people, the closest I got was some who believe that they shouldn’t be charged with murder. We’re in the year two-thousand and eight in the twenty-first century. I seriously can’t believe that people will actually ignore all the knowledge we have.

The grandmother has told an investigator that Madeline was sick for about 1 week and was tired and weak, even to the point of being unable to stand up. At this point, she told the mother that she should see a doctor, which she decliend to do so, saying “that Madeline would be fine and God would heal her,” according to the police report. It was then on Easter Sunday when she fell into a diabetic coma and stopped breathing. It appears rather than calling 911, she instead called a relative in California who in turn called the police, although it was too late.

Right now investigations are still underway as to whether they should be charged with murder. The Neumann’s three other children have been placed in an undisclosed family member’s care. To me, they are murders and let their daughter die, despite efforts from family members to give her professional medical care.

May you rest in peace, Madeline Kara Neumann (1996-2008).

For the words of the man will bring down the nation and the faith the people will rise up into nothingness yet the power of those will dawn across the world like a tidal wave of lies.

It is the fallacies that we are all force fed from the hands of mass media to destroy our reasoning and thinking about those who we vote in as we aimlessly perform our daily rituals and become a new nation of mindless individuals who will accept anything from the man in power as long as the latest gossip on the Hollywood whores is constantly streamed into their minds like the tabloids they walk past on every street corner and in every supermarket and that they are sure that their cell phones will not drop a call so the discussion and spreading of this shit can happen at an even faster rate.

Unless we open our eyes and look at the filth that is around us, we will continue to accept everything which is spewed at us via the television and radio airwaves and the ink which saturates us with constant terror in print media. Our future is in the hands of the ignorant.

I just had my first successful photowalk yesterday. I took one before, although I didn’t explore much and I went out too late so I couldn’t take any pictures without a tripod. Yesterday was a really nice day, which made me feel really good. I decided to go outside and take a nice walk around my neighborhood and see what I could find.

So I sent out on my old route I would take around the neighborhood when I would ride my bike with my dad or my grandmother. Although it’s really the only way to go, every street pretty much takes you to the same place, that or a dead end. One interesting place that I pretty much forgot about is a little park. Really just a small basketball courth and a baseball field. I would assume that the field is used by the middle school, which is connected to the field by a large path though the woods, according to aerial photos.

By foot, it’s actually a somewhat long walk, maybe about 15 minutes one way. I’ve never actually walked around here, always with my bike. Although it did give me some time to just clear my mind and get some excerise and fresh air. My neighborhood feels pretty deserted. Tbe most that happens is a car will drive by me, soon to disappear around a corner or pull into a driveway. I was really surprised today to see some kids playing in their front yard.

Hoping to find something interesting there, I tried to make it before it got too dark. As I’m walking up I remember 2 signs about 30 feet apart, one is a warning for a $100 fine for dumping while the other says a $1000 fine for dumping. I remember my grandmother joked that if she had to throw away something there, you might as well just move 30 feet or so and pay a much smaller fine. While I was looking I noticed a small abandoned building. Barely remembering it, I walked up a little to it to see what it was. It used to be connected to the power, but the wires from the buidling were cut. It was too dark inside to see and I didn’t have my flash with me.

I walked up to it, although kept a small distance away from it in case there was an animal of sorts in it, although there was a locked fence around it. I took a few pictures and then walked around to the side of it and saw what I think is a large tank. I’m thinking it was used to check the power for the area or perhaps for something dealing with water. Looking at the ground I saw some water bottles and some Skoal tins, most likely some other teens who needed a secluded place to dip.

After taking a few pictures I walked down to the actual park area, where I noticed a basketball lying on the grass. I didn’t want to lie down on the muddy grass so instead I just rested on my foot and blindly took a picture with my camera close to the ground. Very surprisingly, it came out really good.

(This actually happened before, where I was just holding my camera by the strap while sitting down, somewhat bored, and randomly snapped a picture, which turned out to have a pretty good angle to it.)

Then I walked over to the baseball field which just started getting some use. I snapped a picture of a lock that should have probably been holding a chain to stop me and a sign warning me of going down into the basement of some small power building (good thing, seemed like a really good idea). I tried taking some pictures of the field, although I wasn’t feeling all that motivated and couldn’t get anything from it. Most pics just looked like some random muddy field.

As I was walking back, I noticed some guy standing around where the building was. Somewhat worried, thinking he might have been a police officer who saw me looking at the tins and thinking I threw them there or he was going to ask me what exactly I was doing there alone (although I would have known how to conduct myself for the latter possible situation, calmly and casually explaing that I have ever right to take pictures there and just ask if I’m free to go).

As I was walking I saw that it was just a man walking his dog who happen to pull him over there, maybe smelling my scent. Either the man saw me with my camera and thinking I was a professional and that I shouldn’t be botherered, thinking it’s something important or that he didn’t even see me or just didn’t care.

After walking back (and taking another pic along the way), I downloaded my photos and fixed the levels in all of them (I’m teh noob when it comes to this, so I just choose Auto Levels which, at least to me, does a job good enough for my needs) and then uploaded them to Flickly, happily spamming the link in IRC.

So on Saturday night, while there was a huge storm, I was just browsing Facebook when all of sudden I heard some loud crackling coming from outside with the lights flickering. Wondering what’s going on, I turn in my swivelly chair and see from my window a huge flash of light and sparks flying everywhere for a good two seconds. Now I’m stuck in my pitch black room.

At first I thought that the transformer exploded. I’m looking outside trying to see what happened. I grabbed a flashlight and went downstairs to see if my parents could shed any light on this since they had a better view than me. They just saw the same things as me. We gather up some flashlights when we decide to go check outside. Slowly we go down and see that one of our neighbor’s is out there as well. He does some work around the town like electrical work. So when we get there we come to this.

After talking to some of our other neighbors and having someone call up the town, we’re put on a waiting list. Turns out there’s about 20,000 people without power in North Jersey alone. So we go back inside and make due with what we have. The next day we went to my aunt’s house so we could charge our cell phones and laptops. Luckily, my uncle had a small battery powered generator so that we could plug in some small things for a while, which really helped a lot since plugging in a lamp gave off a lot more light than the pile of flashlights we had. We stay there until night when we have to sleep to go to school/work.

On a side note, I had brought along my iMac because I needed to finish something that was on it. When we left I was juggling my iMac and several other things, one of them being the keyboard. I place it on the roof of the car, and yes, we drove away with it still on there. It wasn’t until I got home did I realize. We called up my uncle and he walked down the street and said there was nothing. Right now I have to use my last gen Apple keyboard, which feels incredibly bulky and hard to type on.

So today rolls along and, after waking up in a freezing cold room, which was quite nice, I come out of school to find out we still don’t have power. I had to go to the dentist after school, so while after I went and I had to wait for my dad, I called up out house to gleefully hear our answering machine, meaning the electricity came back on! So now I’m here, in a nice warm, brightly lit house, gladly enjoying the ability to turn on a lamp and get light.

A few days ago I started to feel some limitations from using eeeXubuntu on my Eee. One of them was the lack of support for my Blackberry, as I am unable to use it as a Bluetooth modem. Another reason was I wasn’t entirely used to how Linux handles applications. It seemed a little complicated to me, like where apps are installed, where they should be installed. At least I’m used to Windows from using it for the greater part of my life.

(Using the Royal Noir theme with the Boston Skyline wallpaper.)

I began to Google around to try and find instructions on how to connect to my phone. At first, I started having trouble even finding instructions. Either they were outdated or didn’t work. I really started getting frustrated until I followed the instructions here and all of a sudden it worked. Either there was a small change in these instructions than the other ones or it was because I turned off WiFi.

Now for the stats. I’m using a BlackBerry Pearl 8100 with service from T-Mobile. I’m connecting to the Internet via their EDGE network in New Jersey in the Metro area. At least at my house I’m getting pretty good speeds. Using speedtest.net I got a download speed of 152 kb/s and an upload speed of 94 kb/s although I had an incredibly high ping of 484 ms.

Another good part about running Windows is that I’m open to a few more apps, specifically iTunes. I’m going to order this SD card of Newegg so that I can have my iTunes library with me without having to also carry my iPod. I suppose I’m not just ready yet for Linux.

Today my Wacom Bamboo came in, one day earlier than expected! About a week ago I happened to be looking around the Internet and came upon the Bamboo. My first impression was that it was a very nice looking tablet and then I saw that it was only $80, which is very cheap for a tablet. So while I was Googling more about this, I found an Amazon link for it where it was selling for only $60! At such a price it was impossible to say no to it and thus it was quickly ordered.

The first thing that caught my eye with this was it’s incredible sleek look, which is even better in person when you see how thin it is. The blue backlight function keys at the top just add to the very professional looking design. The pen is wireless and battery free thanks to Wacom’s ingenious technology which allows the pad to transfer the power wirelessly. The pad itself feels like paper and is very comfortable to write and draw on.

For the price, this is a steal and I would get it just for the few times you would use it. But you’d probably begin to use it more and more and just find new ways to use it.
